Back To The 80's

The controversial 80’s fashion seems to demand attention this season.  Though shoulder pads and batwing sleeves are already out of the current fashion scenario, there are still some of 80’s remains that’s making fashionistas’ heart go pitter patter in delight. Mini skirts are one of them.  Then, wayfarer sunglasses, laces, neons, leggings, crop tops, over-sized tops and stone-washed denims to name a few.

Many have argued that fashion in the 80’s was too big, too loud and just plain too much but isn’t that what we dig for right now? Well, not completely but we could take some cues from there and try and reinvent a ’80s classic to look fresh and modern. So let’s take a trip down memory lane to review some of the biggest ’80s trends and see how they’ve influenced the style of 2013.

Neons: Many trendsetters are loving neons this season. Though in the 80’s neons were adorned in the most excessive and bold way, the modern take on neons are flatteringly apposite and have been given a fresh trendy twist to it.
Miniskirts: The concept then was “the shorter the better”. Well, the concept is still the same only patterns and silhouettes have been upgraded. Every woman of that era and the current era loves miniskirts. Even if some are not comfortable wearing solely the miniskirt, they wore it with tights or leggings underneath it.

Crop Tops: Denims and crop tops were a big thing back then and they are going to be a big thing too, this season. This is a look that screams sexy and feminine and at the same time bold and fierce.

Wayfarer sunglasses: A classic staple piece, wayfarers were the de facto sunglasses of choice for anyone and everyone who was cool in the '80s. Wayfarers are among the trendiest accessories of this season. They are classy, super trendy and highly sophisticated.
Leggings: Women loved to pull off the dance wear look with leggings. And, dancewear is making a comeback this season. Think Jane Fonda in the 80’s, how she rocked the dancewear look. Throw in a over-sized top and team up with your leggings.

Overalls: They are making it back with a bang. Overalls were the most worn and wanted items in the 80’s. Almost everybody wore it, kids, women, men, grannies, uncles etc. They are very casual and comfortable and also give a very trendy outlook especially the ones that have been designed for this season.

Well, we hope these remains of the 80’s served a nostalgic blast from the past and a friendly reminder that they are still stuck on the current fashion radar and are here to stay around longer.

Swim With A Sway

With temperature soaring at an unbearable height, almost everyone is looking for a getaway or a vacation. For the stylish lot, nothing could be a better spot to beat the heat than a beach or a pool. Lucky if you’re going to be hitting the beach, otherwise even if you’re planning to hang out by the pool, make sure you’re on trend. Whether you’re soaking up the sun by the beach or out for a pool party, the most important thing won’t be the SPF on your sunscreen lotion, but which swimwear you’ll be wearing. Your last season’s bikinis and swimsuits won’t do much to put you on a trendy quotient. We think they were a tad bit dull with very little novelty to offer. This season’s collection has much more weight in terms of cuts, designs and colours. We have listed out the latest swimwear trends to keep you in vogue for this hot season.

Greek Goddess Style Bikinis: What can be sexier than the twists, drapes and knots style bikinis? They will give off a sexy, sultry and a Grecian Goddess vibe. They can also add volume in places you need it helping to shape your figure in flattering ways. And, though Greek Goddess is mainly about whites and gold, it’s totally okay to go bright and colourful on the swimwears. Explore deep reds, rich vibrant oranges, or soft pastels.

Cut-Out Swimsuits: With amazing cut-out detailing combined with exotic prints, the cut-out style swimsuit is becoming a rage this season. Many fashion fanatics and trendsetters have revealed that this style is the hottest piece in the swimwear range. We think the best part about cut-outs is that they show just the right amount of skin to remind you that you don’t need a two-piece be hot.

Digital Print Swimwears: Amongst this season’s latest swimwear trend, unusual prints are also making its way on the list. The most popular digital prints include mostly soft florals, animals, cityscapes and even abstract patterns. They are fun, wild, flirty and tremendously stylish to look at. So don’t be afraid to push your limits and go with a landscape or an animal print on your bikini or one-piece this summer.

Mismatched Two-Pieces: Well, for this one you don’t really need to buy a new bikini top or bottoms. Find the best you have from last season’s and try to mismatch them. If required, you could buy a nice bandeau style bikini top and pair with a contrast bikini bottoms, or vice versa. Mismatched bikini tops and bottoms can be a great way to create a playful, abstract look.

Rock Those Shorts

When it comes to shorts, the best way to adorn them is with a vest top given the current heightened temperature. But again, that’s boring and very Plain Jane and probably it’ll work if you have to just run down to the market for some grocery shopping or something. So, pairing it with vest top can be left aside for now unless you can find a super cute vest top and pair with great footwear. Actually, a basket-ball inspired jersey top won’t be so bad if teamed with denim shorts and high-top sneakers or plimsolls. That would give you a sporty chic look, but it’s not quite a favourite this season so it might not really be the most fashionable thing to sport. But if you think you can rock it by adding your own personal styling, go for it.
What’s really making news in the fashion scenario currently is colourful shorts. A bright solid hue shorts teamed with a colourful printed top is totally fad.  Floral prints, abstracts, gingham, tartans, nautical stripes are some things to incorporate in your blouses pattern.  Pair gingham printed shirt with denim shorts and add a pair of chunky heels to pull off a sultry yet chic look.

For a fun and flirty appeal, team colourful shorts with soft floral print country style blouse and Lita shoes. If you want to keep it understated yet elegant then you need to pick good tailored shorts and team with Peter Pan collar shirt and Mary Jane platforms. This look is very Ivy League and it’s sure to make you look like you own lots of money. Isn’t that nice? And to further pull off a richer appeal with hints of glamour, like one of the Sex and City character, you have to go for the little embellished design ones or glittery types and team up with a sheer fabric blouse in rich blue or emerald or other bold colours.

On the footwear, sky-high heels are a must. Few options are D’Orsay platforms, peep-toe platforms, wedges or retro pumps. And, now finish the look by adding a statement neckpiece. Now you’re all set to look like you came straight out of a fashion magazine.  Talking about fashion magazines, we are really seeing a lot of celebrities and fashionistas sporting high waisted tight shorts worn with bracelets and booties. This is the typical 90’s glamour look and it seems to be on trend this season. You can try that look as well. You can try many different looks with these summer shorts. Use your creativity and try bringing out really fashion-forward looks that’s going to turn heads and make a statement.

Heat It Up With Denims

One thing that will never outdate, denims are a classic staple in your wardrobe. And this season denim is set to reach a wider audience than ever proving that the all-American classic is no longer confined to a pair of jeans. There are more to look into; trousers, boyfriend shorts, dresses, jumpsuits, skirts or even blazers. New prints, washes and construction have also been introduced this season.
You can find denims taking on especially creative forms like pearl trimmed denim tube dress, denim jumpsuit worn open over a crop top, waxing on jeans and many more new patterns. Denims are a forever thing so you can stock up as many different types of denims in your wardrobe.
Now that denims are sticking around, why not play around with it by mixing and matching with other items or may be denims with denims. Here are a few tutorials.
Start with collecting denim skirts. Pair torn denim skirt paired with a tucked in denim shirt. Add a baseball cap and nude heels. Basic short denim skirt with a floral blouse is also a terrific combo. Wear a pair of peep-toe wedges with it. Next, look out for embellished denim pants. A white razor back top paired with embellished denim pants could toss you up and put you on trend.
Consider torn jeans in light hue as well. They can be best paired with loose t-shirt and sunglasses. Skip the heels and instead go for flat sandals. Then, you need to get a lot of denim shirts as they are all the rage this season. Pair denim shirt with chambray shorts and add a black blazer on shoulders, a black belt and shoes to match. Also, making it huge this season are the denim jumpsuits.

Don’t forget to get them in multiple designs from long to short or mid-length. Wear them with cute canvas sneakers or plimsolls. Last on the list are statement denim pants. Who can do without this? There are plethora of different designs and styles available. Statement denim pants with an over sized tee-shirt rocks with a studded clutch and biker booties.
