With exposed patches of skin at the chest, waist, and everywhere else, you can feel ultimately sexy when you’re wearing a cut-out dress. Team with a pair of a sexy sky-high strappy heels or platforms. To add an extra oomph and glamour, adorn a statement clutch bag.

For a casual look, you can sport stripes and for a more formal look, opt for the paneled style. If you’re really adventurous and want to make a statement, then add a dash of colour with some bright accessories or some striking shoes.

Swirl Around In Skirts This Summer/Spring

We are all aware that this spring summer is all about brightness and colours. But did you know the main motive behind these colours? It is to bring out femininity. We have seen quite a lot of feminine blouses, dresses, trousers but we haven’t been quite introduced to skirts.  This spring summer, skirts are also becoming the go-to for the fashion obsessed.  From bright and pastel colors, flounces and ruffles, and also transparent fabrics, they come in different styles. Here’s an overview of this season’s collections.

Layering and asymmetric style:  Also known as complicated skirts, they are a combination of complex style and uneven edge. There are also drapery and rich detail like flounces, ruffles, sewn decoration. And, the layering effect. They are created from several layers of fabric, differing in texture from the likes of chiffon, wool, lace, satin etc. Wear this type of skirt with a slinky top, a simple basic blouse or a feminine cardigan.
Pencil skirt: This is the most popular and adored style of the era. They have been there and they will be there so definitely something not to miss out. The basic plain pencil skirts have served their time, this season look out for something different. An elegant silhouette has been added which is the unusual texture of fabrics and bright colours. In addition, much attention is paid to the waist, which is often overstated. They will take you from a business meeting to a gala party.

Straight skirt: This type of skirt is suitable for almost any figure but the new designs that have come out might not be suitable for all because it’s going to take guts to wear them. If you’re ready to dare, then get ready to adorn straight skirts with really bold prints, cuts and fabric texture.

Long skirt: A skirt to the floor is still looking to stay this season. Don’t confuse with the boring plain-Jane types now. What we have for this spring summer is something you haven’t seen before. Luxuriantly sewed, cutting models with details such as light fabrics, folds, ruffles and lace fringe, they come in fabrics like denims, jersey and satin.

Leather skirts: The leather skirts are given a very modern and elegant twist this season. Pleats detailed in waist, feminine silhouettes and lace finishings are some of the new designs given to our tough leather skirt. So you have choices now, either go bold and fierce or keep it bold yet feminine.

You’ve got to be prepared for the rain. It can be a bit difficult to dress up on a rainy day because there are so many things to consider.  Material is one of the things to consider when you’re stepping out, there are some materials that are a totally no-no for a rainy day like suede. Then you’ve got to worry about staying dry without sacrificing on the style. But don’t you worry; we are here to make this a lot easier for you.

You can throw in a thin above-the-knee coat if it gets a bit chilly. Add an umbrella and walk around stylishly as if the rains are not going to stop you from looking trendy.

The Mango Motif

- G. Sri Ramya

With different nomenclature across various parts of the globe, and different ways of being used, the mango motif-a design that looks like a twisted teardrop- belongs to Indian and Persian origin and is named Paisley after a town in central Scotland.
Such is its aesthetic appeal that this simple design sometimes called ‘Persian pickles’ has traversed through diverse cultures and found its niche everywhere.
The ancient paisley print has become such a strong statement that its existence cannot limit itself to the realm of clothing alone. It began as a traditional carving on a wooden block and has gone constant revivification being reproduced in the form of embroideries, screen prints and embellishments.
Courtesy Isabel Marant, PPQ, Normaluisa and others, the paisley motif is among the trendiest patterns this Spring/Summer
Newfangled ways to fashion the paisley print have been presented on the runway this year. While literal designs are still on-trend, adaptations from the mango motif into complex ethnic and bohemian patterns are a global hit.
There are several ways to incorporate this trend in your wardrobe without being repetitive.
The Motif and Monochrome- Black & white is a classic combination which works perfectly well with the bearing of the paisley print. An elegant black dress in paisley pattern or black trousers with white paisley prints teamed with a pastel-hued top makes for a chic outfit.
The Paisley Partner- Opt for outfits in washed out geometric prints and team them with oversized tote bags and high heels in ‘Persian pickles’. While your outfit is in washed-out pastel hues go for vivid and rich colours for your accessories, which will highlight the beauty of the print.

The Symbolic Shirt- A Shirt with the paisley symbol printed or embroidered over it is a chic option and will make your ensemble stylish without mush effort. Pair a paisley printed shirt with basic blue denims and you’re on-trend for a day out.
In its solitary form or entwined in gypsy designs, the mango motif must find a place in your wardrobe very soon.

Hair Trends - Spring/Summer 2013

We all love to see the outré hairstyles but don’t really get the same look as the runways. Good news is, this spring summer the hair trends are much less complicated and easy to create. Wearable looks are a major presence on the runway not to say that there was less creativity. We witness a lot of new ways to don your hair. Here are a few.
Low Buns and Ponytail: Last season ponytails were high and buns were perched on top of the head. This season the anti-ballerina bun is coming back in. Pull your hair back and perch on the nape of your neck to create a sleek and sophisticated look. Style your ponytails in the same way and you can wrap the tail into any number of look, a loop with the ends pointing up or tucked under, a round ballet bun, or the classic double knot.  This look is very chic and would go well with your evening dresses. Add a pair of chandelier earrings for more intensity and sophistication.
Natural waves: They were there, they are here and they will always be. This is one of the most effortless styles. It’s naturally chic, sexy and very bold. You can get them by getting some mousse and scrunching your hair before blow-drying, or for a messy look, simply tie up your hair in a bun before you sleep.

Super straight: It’s time to bring out the straighteners. The Avril Lavigne hairstyle is back and this time naturally straight won’t work. You’ve got to make it super straight and sleek. Imagine a tight bombshell dress, sky-high platform pumps and super straight. You’re going to look like you came straight out of a Vogue or Elle magazine.

Wet look: The slick look is back again this season. It made it huge last season and it’s going to make again this season too. The wet look is super sexy, very old Hollywood star look and easy to make. All you have to do is grab pots of gels and get combing.

Topping it off: Nothing adds an extra twist or a drama to your pretty hairstyle like accessories do. There are many hair accessories to choose from. There are headbands, hair clips in different designs, tiaras, head gears and many more impossibly chic headpieces to give your hairstyle a chic spin.

Colourful Walk

After years and years of neutrals dominating on the footwear front, it’s high time we give our feet some colours and brightness. As spring summer is truly a bounty of colours, we are going to be seeing a lot brightness and vibrancy even on our footwear. Colours like tangerine, emerald, fuchsia pink, fiery red, coral and yellow are taking centre stage this season. Be sure to incorporate those colours when you’re buying shoes. Next step is to know what type of colour to choose for certain footwear. You would totally go wrong if you picked a neon colour sneakers just because neons are in.  You’ve got to know what to pick and most importantly how to match with your outfit. Here is a roundup of what to look forward to this spring summer.
Colour blocking Wedges: They are the most favourite item of spring. They are chic, fun and very versatile. Wedges go with almost every summer outfit. But if you’re going to be opting for bright coloured ones, then matching them with your outfit is very important. Choose pastel colour outfits to balance the loudness of the footwear. A hot pick would be a sultry floral printed skater dress teamed with a pair of colour blocking wedges.

Bright shade Ballerinas: They are every girl’s best friend. No wardrobe is complete without a pair of ballerinas, be it summer or winter. The versatility embedded with ballerinas has reached beyond wearing ballerinas with almost anything.  Denims, shorts, skirts, dresses or even jumpsuits, ballerinas are a great compliment to them all. And this season, choose from an array of bright hues ballerinas and have fun wearing them even with loud number outfits.

Colourful Stilettos: Sophisticated, glamorous and classic, stilettos really do wonder to your formal or semi-formal outfits. And with these bright and colourful ones, you’re sure to put your style quotient in glamour. When styling coloured stilettos pair them with neutral ensembles or at least one or two contrasting hues in the outfit, for a well coordinated and balanced look.

Bright Hue Gladiators: They are the ultimate spring summer off-duty shoes and can be mixed and matched with your wardrobe favourites. They are stylish, versatile and can easily liven up your on-the-go outfit. For a bolder and demanding look, team colourful gladiators with hot pants, really bright tube top and over-sized sunglasses. If you like to sport a little off-beat look, pick a pastel shade summer dress and team up with bright gladiators. Since they are a versatile item, you can wear them with almost anything.

Colourful Trainers: They are comfortable, funky and one of the minimalistic footwear of all time. Choose terrifically colourful trainers to wear with your sporty clothes.

Girly Glam

This trend is about a little girl’s style by a grown up that has now gone glamorous. The basic elements of a little girl’s wardrobe are still the same though, only it’s been given a glamorous twist and appeal.  The little frilly frock we wore when we were 10 has just been slightly redefined and it is now a fashionable item.  Those cute little skirts with pleats still have not been modernized and it is another trendy outfit. There isn’t much change in the silhouettes, colours, prints, patterns etc. Pink and polka dots are still a favourite of many.  The headband which is considered a little girl’s accessory is one of the most used and sought after accessory in the history of fashion.  From pastel shades to cotton cane lace, pleated skirts or even a pinafore, they are making a big impression on the current fashion chart.  Think feminine and pretty.  If you want to bring out the inner girl in you, it’s about time to stock up your summer wardrobe with a lot of girly items.
Pastel shade: First start with filling in lots of pastel shade items in your summer closet.  You can opt for tea dresses in soft sultry shades. Skater skirts are also bang on trend so incorporate light polka dot printed or feminine nautical stripes skirts matched with lace detailed blouses.  For footwear, the classic ballerinas with bow detailed are an ideal. Choose headbands with baby pink bow for a cute finish to your feminine outlook.
Whites: White is an integral part of the girly glam trend.  Whenever you’re wearing a coloured skirt or trousers, a white blouse is perfect to team up with. A white dress embellished with buttons or studs or anything fancy is always graceful and trendy. Adorn rhinestone earrings or bracelets when you’re sporting something white. They go very well together. Even when you’re wearing a printed dress or any coloured dress, a white canvas gives a school girl look in a very fashionable way.
Polka Dots: They are girl’s best friend after diamonds. A girly ensemble cannot be complete without polka dots. From tops to dresses, skirts or even accessories polka dots are a must- have.
Florals: Summer’s favourite, florals are as important as polka dots. Pick soft floral motifs in sultry shades or white silhouettes with bigger motifs. Make sure you choose soft and subtle tones. Floral shift dresses are a good pick and floral skater dresses too.

Sporty Chic

The ever popular athletic style with a feminine twist is in trend this season.  That’s right, now making a style statement is a lot easier. You don’t need to do much or go that extra mile to stand out bold and chic. Your sporty and casual outfits are enough. Now we don’t mean throwing on a pair of loose pants, a slouchy tee shirt and a cool cap. That is very oriented towards tomboyish look and we are redefining the tomboy look with a touch of femininity. You can still wear soccer inspired tee shirts or loose pants but wear them in style.  We’ll show you how to. This season’s clothing lines are clean, minimal and unapologetically sophisticated.  The sporty aesthetic is given an immaculate styling and has been introduced to more colours and soft fabrics. Here are some tips to jazz up the sporty outlook.
Trousers: Opt for chinos or sweatpants. While choosing the sweatpants make sure you pick the right size for your body, not too loose not too tight. Now pick a tee shirt or a vest top that is quite fitting to team with the pants. If your pants are in sultry tone, then your tee shirt should be in a neutral colour.
Tee shirts: Soccer or baseball inspired tee shirts are statement pieces. They are cool, fun and stylishly sporty. Team them up with a pair of skin-tight denims and wedge trainer shoes. You can even add a P-cap for that extra oomph.
Racer Top: This is perfect for embracing the sporty chic look. You can pair this with almost everything, denims, sweatpants, skirts or shorts.  If you’re wearing it with sweatpants go for a statement sneakers and if you’re teaming it with a skirt or shorts, then canvas sneakers are an ideal.
Shirt Dress: For a dressed down yet trendy look, a shirt dress is a good pick. It’s versatile and effortlessly chic. Adorn it with high top trainers or plimsolls.
Tennis Inspired Dresses: Don’t the tennis players just look naturally stylish when they are standing in the court? You don’t have to be tennis player to sport this dress. Just wear it whenever you want. You can choose from classic to country club styles or the new colour blocking ones. They are all awesome. And, to really ace the look, you can pull in a high ponytail.
Skater skirts: This is a wardrobe staple. A basic skater skirt works for all trends. It is chic and totally versatile. It’s an easy transition piece that you can play around with all day long. Team it with a racer-top and a pair of low trainers.

The Pin-Up Girl

Glamour and self confidence is the key to achieving a pin-up look.  It is a trend from the 40’s and 50’s that never seems to fall off the fashion radar. It doesn’t even need to be recycled. It is as classic as classic can get.  Well, glamour never goes out of style, does it?

Now the question is what exactly a pin-up look is? We are all acquainted with the retro look: woman in a colourful tight dress with perfectly curled hair and bright lips. Pin-up look is somewhere close to that but the pin-up girl is associated more with sexy, curvy and cute.  Sexy icons like Betty Grable and Bettie Paige were the perfect personification of a pin-up girl. In the modern era, Dita Von Teese is the living and breathing pin-up girl. The pin-up philosophy is excessive emphasis on glamour. It’s about looking good all the time. Another philosophy is that timidity isn't sexy, but tenacity is.

Red lips, coiffed hair, curvy body: the three main point of a pin-up look. On the clothing, think sexy and colourful.  Tight fitting bombshell dresses in various prints, bright floral print blouses and solid colour vibrant pencil skirts are few things that define a pin-up girl wardrobe.  The look is flawless and cheeky and gives out a very old Hollywood glamour. Fancy this style? Here’s a little sneak peak to how to sport this look.

The Hair: Curls, curls and curls! Curly hair is the most essential for the pin-up look. You can use any range of hair colour, blond, red, black but it should be a solid colour, no highlights. If you have natural locks then keep it as it is. If your hair is straight then curl them in medium curls and pin it up in one side. To add a little fun, you can use a cute hair pin in floral style.

The Make-up: First start with the eyebrows. Think Elizabeth Taylor for the eyebrows. The pin-up girls usually had sharp arched brows not Clara Bow arched. You got to brush up your eyebrows and make them pop. Key is, keep it as dramatic as possible.  For the eyes, the cat-eye does the trick. Use a black-liquid line and create flicks at the outer corner of your eye. Blend in a sultry shade eye shadow and contour it with a neutral colour later. Don’t forget to sweep your eyelashes with two or three coats of mascara. And last, the lips. It’s the most important part of all. Think Marilyn Monroe. Cherry red or fiery red would do. Make sure you outline your lips first and make a sharp cupid bow "V" and fill in the lip colour to give a rich look.

The Wardrobe: Stock up all vintage items. High waisted pants and shorts, floral blouses, wiggle dresses, pencil skirts, Cuban heeled stockings, round toed pumps, ballet flats, espadrilles, 3/4 sleeve cardigans are some things to start with. While choosing a top, don’t pick tops that have a high neckline. Pin-up is all about looking sexy. You could try halter tops as they reflect a hint of sexiness. But remember to keep it classy. Your aim is to look sexy, not trashy.  You can also try to create your own pin-up style, now that you know what the look demands. Pull out your old blouses, cardigans and try and work the pin-up girl look.

Oh-So-Classy

The famous oh-so-classy look is back again, this time with more vibrancy and brazenness. Think in terms of loud and bold coloured pencil skirts, floral print blouses, vibrant low cut vintage dresses and retro pumps. Sophistication is being redefined here with a pop of colour. Shun away the understated elegant look and adopt the vibrant and elegant style. This trend is here to stay throughout the season; in fact you could still carry it off even in the fall. The key to rock this look is ‘don’t wear too much, don’t wear too less’.  For instance, if you’re wearing just a light shade blouse and a plain skirt make sure you wear a bright shoe or have a colourful accessory on, like a colourful bag. Wearing too much would be, wearing all colourful from head-to-toe, colourful dress, shoes and bright accessories. You’ve got to balance it if you want to stand out looking all sophisticated yet at the same time fun and flirty. Find out how to.

Floral Print Blouses and Bright Pencil Skirt: This is sure to put you on a spotlight. It’s classy, fun and totally chic. However, while choosing the blouse make sure you choose very soft printed ones. Don’t pick anything that has huge floral motifs and too much detailing. You don’t want to confuse it with the retro style. You could choose peplum style tops in soft prints. They look great with pencil skirt and the combo of both would give you that elegant yet fun look.

Pencil Dresses and Retro Pumps: Teaming a bright pencil dress and vibrant retro platform pumps is an ideal classy and fun look. For the dress, opt for classic check prints or very soft floral printed ones. On the shoes, make sure the colour of the pumps matches with the dress. While teaming them together, keep in mind to coordinate the colours or patterns.

High Waisted colourful Pants and Printed Shirt: This combo sort of resembles the retro look so you’ve got to be careful in selecting the trouser. Don’t wear too fitting pants; instead look out for classic-cut trousers in ankle length. The blouse need not be printed, plain oxford shirts with very soft print would also work. To avoid looking like a retro girl, sport a pair of classic round-toe stilettos with it.
