Inspiring Insects

- G. Sri Ramya

If you ever took an observant trip to a garden, you’d be surprised to learn what the most trivial of beings could offer to the concept of fashion and more importantly fashionable clothing. Even if you did happen to notice, what is most likely to get noticed would be the flora and then the fruits. Prints like the cherries and floral have been popular adaptations from nature, and then there are some beings that conveniently go unnoticed.

Who would have thought insects would ever be capable of inspiring a fashionable mind. Then again, great inspirations often come from the most unexpected sources.

Bugs, bees and butterflies have given us revolutionary prints. These tiny creatures have gifted fresh and vibrant patterns to drab clothing.

Borrowed From The Bug- While the dotted pattern is popular, its resemblance to the ladybug or ladybird might be a conscious coincidence. A comfort top or a skater skirt in the famous polka dots can make your attire cheerful.

Beautiful Butterflies- The array of sizes and colours that butterflies exist in are incredible and when these natural beauties are replicated on garments, the grace they bring is amazing. Tops, tunic dresses or shorts in butterfly prints attribute a fun and breezy feeling to your ensemble.
Comely Honeycomb- The  is one of the most interesting gifts of nature. Its translation onto garments brings an angular, edgy yet feminine feel. Leggings, trousers, tops or dresses in honeycomb pattern are a chic and atypical way to define your style.

Inspirations for some of the most applauded designs on runways have been drawn from unusual natural species. If you’re not too much into curious clothing but like to add some fun to your garments these prints are just where you should start from. You must’ve had your encounter with the floral and fruity prints, so this Spring/Summer it’s time for the inspiring insects!
